Adds up to big savings

There are good reasons why a plant-based diet is gaining popularity – it’s great for the environment, offers health benefits, not to mention it promotes animal welfare. If you aren’t ready to go vegan or vegetarian full-time, you can have peace of mind knowing that going meat-free at least once a week can still make a huge impact.

Transitioning towards a vegan lifestyle can take some practice. I enjoy trying out new recipes in the kitchen, but sometimes I just want to have a delicious meal delivered to my door after a long day. Am I right?

Luckily, Uber Eats Toronto has plenty of vegan take-out options, making it easy and convenient for us to cut down on meat and dairy consumption while satisfying our cravings.

If you are dining in The Six and looking for vegan delivery on Uber Eats, check out some of my favourites:

1. unChicken and Waffles

 Where: Hogtown Vegan
382 College Street, Toronto

Looking for some southern comfort food? Hogtown Vegan makes the most amazing unChicken and Waffles. It is served with whipped cinnamon butter, spicy syrup and sauteed “bacon” garlic collard greens. They also make a killer, melt-in-your-mouth macaroni and cheese with just the perfect amount of spice.

This down-home cooked meal pairs perfectly with a bottle of organic Rosé or local craft beer, which can also be easily added to your Hogtown Vegan Uber Eats order.

2. Tenon Special Roll

Where: Tenon Sushi
8362 Kennedy Road, Toronto

Craving sushi but want to go easy on the seafood? Tenon Sushi is a completely vegan sushi restaurant, which means that you won’t need to worry about your meal coming into contact with any meat or dairy products.

My favourite sushi roll is the Tenon Vegan Roll, which is filled with soy crab meat, avocado and king mushrooms. It’s topped with vegan mayonnaise, mint, and soybean fiber to give it a fresh crunch. I usually throw in some warm edamame, tom yum soup and one of their noodle dishes into my Uber Eats order to round out my meal.

3. Powerhouse Bowl

Where: Fresh
9 locations across Toronto

Fresh has been a favourite on Toronto’s vegan and vegetarian scene, and with 9 locations across the city, you are pretty much guaranteed to find a Fresh restaurant anywhere in the city. I’ll be honest – I love all the Fresh bowls, but my favourite has to be the Powerhouse Bowl. It’s packed with avocado, chickpeas, tofu steaks, salad greens, microgreens, toasted mixed nuts, tomato, scallions, spicy tahini sauce and lemon.

You can also order Fresh’s retail sauces, smoothies and meal kits through the Uber Eats app. Oh, and don’t forget to throw in an order of quinoa onion rings – you can thank me later.

4. Chana Masala with Garlic Kulcha

Where: Little India
255 Queen Street West

Little India has been a long-time favourite restaurant of mine and I have a hard time strolling down Queen Street West without popping in. Luckily for me, they deliver with Uber Eats, which means that I can enjoy my favourite Indian foods and support their business from the comfort of my couch.

My go-to vegan dish is their Chana Masala – it’s a tasty chickpea stew in a spicy ginger tomato sauce. I love to eat this with an order of Garlic Kulcha, which is a nan bread stuffed with fresh garlic, coriander and mango powder, along with the Pulao Rice.

5. BBQ Pulled Jackfruit Burger

Where: Animal Liberation Kitchen
100 Broadview Avenue, Toronto

Jackfruit has become the up-and-coming star of the vegan cooking world. This plant-based meat alternative has become a popular dish because of the unripe fruits uncanny ability to soak up flavours and it has a stringy, “meat-like” texture when cooked.

Located in Toronto’s Riverdale area, Animal Liberation Kitchen whips up an amazing BBQ pulled jackfruit burger, unlike any other in the city. It is served on a white sourdough bun with chipotle mayo and arugula. To get that smoky sweet taste, they marinate the jackfruit in pineapple, dry spices, adobo sauce and BBQ sauce and top the whole thing off with chipotle mayo and arugula.

6. Stir-Fried Green Beans with Soya Chops

Where: Buddha’s Vegan
666 Dundas Street West, Toronto

It’s no surprise that Buddha’s Vegan consistently has fans raving online about its quick delivery, massive portions, reasonable prices and assortment of tasty vegan dishes. This tiny Kensington Market shop is truly a vegan haven.

My favourite dish is the Stir-fried Green Beans with Soya Chops, but I’d also recommend trying out their General Tao Chicken, Tao Rolls and Fried Rice Noodle with Eggplant & Tofu in Black Bean Sauce.

7. Cocina Combo

Where: PLANTA Cocina
180 Queen Street West, Toronto

I love PLANTA, so I was thrilled when Chef David Lee opened up a new location featuring a Mexican-inspired menu. If you are planning a date night at home, I’d recommend trying out the Cocina Combo.

The Conina Combo serves two people and comes with cauliflower tots, a big bowl of chili, watermelon & cucumber salad, taquitos, salsa, choice of 4 tacos and tres leches for dessert.

8. New York Style Cherry Cheesecake

Where: Vegan Danish Bakery
1312 Queen Street West

Just because you have decided to forgo dairy, doesn’t mean that you have to skip desert! Whether you are looking for a savory meal, quick snack or sweet treat, this little Parkdale bakery has plenty of vegan options to choose from.

If you have a sweet tooth, but vegan cheesecake isn’t your jam, try one of their flaky fruit turnovers, Boston Cream pie or Danishes. I promise, you won’t be disappointed.
